A wealthy British cryptocurrency trader was allegedly attacked and robbed at a party in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Bitcoin fanatic, 25, from North London, met with the five suspects who invited him to their penthouse room at the Boss Mansion Residence hotel in the city's Phra Khanong neighbourhood early morning on July 12.
However, when he arrived, the group reportedly pounced on him, tying him up and stealing his valuables before punching him and zapping him with a taser.
It was unclear how Naseeff, who was well known in the Bitcoin community for his trading success, escaped from the ordeal, but he was able to later file a report with the local police.
Police Colonel Wachirakorn Wongboon, superintendent of the Khlong Tan Police Station, said the suspects - three men and two women - were arrested on July 14 in Bangkok on suspicion of robbing the British trader.
They were identified as three British nationals Shafiq Sumya, 21, Saeed Yasin, 20, and Hussein Mohamed Hassan Sheekh, 24, along with a foreign woman whose name and nationality were unknown. Danish man Abdullahi Ahmed Saney Mohamed, 26, was also allegedly part of the gang.
Police Colonel Wachirakorn said: 'We learned that the suspects were unemployed but had large sums of money matching the victim's report. None of them had prior criminal records.'
Officers seized from them an Apple iPhone 14, an Apple iPhone 15, one Audemars Piguet watch, a Rolex watch, one ADCD credit card, and 24,000 baht in cash.
The valuables were estimated to be worth three million baht.
Cops said the suspects will be charged with multiple offences, including armed robbery, assault causing bodily or mental harm, coercion with weapons, unlawful detention, extortion, document theft, and carrying weapons in public areas without reasonable cause.
The accused have denied the charges and requested to testify in court. They were sent to the inquiry officer for further legal proceedings.
