Rug maker puts famous faces on his mats

A creative rug maker puts celebrity's portraits onto his mats in Thailand.
Jack, the owner of Kirov Rugstore, creates the incredible custom masterpieces at his workshop in Bangkok.
Among his most popular artworks is a recreation of K-pop star Lalisa Manoban's 'Rockstar' album cover, which was auctioned off for 3,100 baht (67 GBP).
The rug maker said: 'It started when I was relaxing at home, browsing through social media, and saw a video of a foreigner making rugs.
'I thought, I could build on this, making it more special and grander. So, I started ordering materials and learning by trial and error, spending whole days to find rug-making methods and processes.'
Kirov Rugstore has been open for just a little over a year, but Jack said he has gained enough experience to create large rugs with varied designs and patterns - from human and pet portraits, to word art and cartoon character designs.
Jack starts the process by first loading the client-approved design in a computer software, before projecting the image onto a rug to be traced.
Using an embroidery gun, he and his assistant then go over the outline with stitches, then fill in the gaps with different coloured threads.
Jack uses a razor to smooth out the rug and painstakingly shave off any stray fibres.
He said: 'The difficulty of making rugs lies in every aspect, from reproducing designs.
'If we do not understand the designs, the outline will be incorrect. If we do not clearly split parts, the outline will be disorganised, causing the silk thread colours to mix.
'One more challenging aspect is embroidering. It involves ensuring that the embroidery is equally dense and thorough, making every part of the process difficult.'
Customers interested in ordering Jack's rugs can contact him through his Facebook or TikTok pages.
