One missing as fuel tanker capsizes off the Philippines during Typhoon Gaemi

A fuel tanker battered by high waves during Typhoon Gaemi capsized off the coast of the Philippines causing an oil spill and leaving one crew member missing.
The MT Terra Nova overturned and sank around 3.6 nautical miles off coastal Limay town in Bataan province early morning on July 25.
Footage shows only a portion of the tanker visible above the sea's surface, with images showing oil slicking the surrounding waters.
Authorities said the vessel had been carrying 1.4 million litres of industrial fuel when the accident occurred.
Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Rear Admiral Armand Balilo said 16 of the 17 crew had been rescued, while one person was still missing.
The Philippine Coast Guard said in a statement: 'The deployed aerial asset monitors an oil spill 5.6 nautical miles east off Lamao Point with an estimated coverage (length) of two nautical miles carried by strong current heading east to northeast. Marine environmental protection personnel have also been mobilized to combat the oil spill.'
It noted that 'there was no weather disturbance in the vicinity waters when the maritime incident occurred'.
At least 13 people have been killed by Typhoon Gaemi in the Philippines and hundreds of thousands displaced by the floods.
Officials said at least three have died and 220 have been injured in nehbouring Taiwan, with flights cancelled and schools and offices closed.
