A Japanese tourist was arrested for allegedly molesting a drunk woman in Thailand.
Nishimura Sora, 27, reportedly approached the intoxicated woman, identified only as 'Dear', while she was waiting for her boyfriend to pick her up at the Royal City Avenue clubbing area of Bangkok at around 4:38 am on July 28.
CCTV footage shows Nishimura sidling up to Dear, who was passed out on a bench, appearing to touch her inappropriately, with the woman feebly trying to resist.
He was then seen carrying her bridal-style into a taxi but later dropped her off at the same spot.
Police arrested Nishimura after Dear when her boyfriend filed a complaint for molestation.
Police Captain Urumporn Koondejsumrit, superintendent of the Makkasan Police Station, said: 'On July 31, we identified the suspect as 27-year-old Japanese national Nishimura Sora, who is staying in the Sukhumvit area.
'We summoned him for questioning, and he admitted to attempting to molest the victim, claiming he was drunk due to heavy drinking at RCA nightclub area before meeting her.'
Nishimura was charged with molestation and unlawful detention. He has been released on a 50,000 Baht bail paid by his relatives.
Police have confiscated his passport.
Meanwhile, the Thai woman, Dear, recounted that she had left a bar after drinking with her friends at around 4 am.
She said she sat on a bench waiting for her boyfriend to arrive when the foreigner walked up to her and introduced himself as a Japanese tourist.
She said: 'He spoke in English and invited me to go to his hotel room. I kept trying to refuse, but I was too drunk and he started touching me inappropriately.
'I didn't have enough strength to fight back. The man snatched my bag and phone and tried to drag me by the arm, but I refused to go with him. He sat down and molested me again. I passed out and when I woke up, I was in the back of a taxi.'
Dear said she managed to snatch her phone back to call her boyfriend, prompting Nishimura to leave her behind and escape the scene in the cab.
Dear warned other women: 'This incident made me very scared and I would like to warn women who go out drinking at night to be careful and drink mindfully.'
