Car crashes into nursery school injuring 15 children in Thailand

An out-of-control car crashed into a nursery school, injuring 15 children in western Thailand.

The youngsters were taking their afternoon nap when a black sedan ploughed through the daycare in Kanchanaburi, at around noon local time today.

Shocking CCTV footage shows the car speeding around a bend before hurtling into the air.

It crashed through the school's metal fence and concrete wall.

Video from inside the building showed children lying on mats moments before the car burst through the concrete wall, sending debris flying across the room.

Several kids closest to the impact were flung from the force of the crash as shocked staff rushed over to pull them to safety.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene at around 12:52 pm, where they found the black car with its front end crumpled.

Nearby, several children wearing bloodstained pink uniforms were seen with bandages wrapped around their heads as medics gave them first aid.

Authorities said 15 kids were rushed to Paholpolpayuhasena Hospital for treatment. The car driver and passenger suffered minor injuries and were also hospitalised.

Police said the driver allegedly blacked out at the wheel after suffering a 'sudden flare-up of a pre-existing medical condition', causing him to veer into the nursery school.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools, along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
