A drunk Welsh tourist allegedly attacked a German holidaymaker and his Thai girlfriend at a bar in 'Sin City' Pattaya, Thailand.
The Welshman, named only by police as 'Mike', 44, had been drinking shots on the notorious Soi 6 road before allegedly punched German national Ralph Peter Mallon, 60, in the head at a nightclub on August 20.
Police arrived and found Ralph bleeding with a serious head injury. He was rushed to the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital to receive stitches for his wounds.
Mike, in a light blue Dior outfit, was arrested.
Ralph's Thai girlfriend, Kanyarat Wansena, 28, claimed Mike began harassing her and her friends for allegedly insulting another Thai woman at the bar.
She said: 'The attacker misunderstood and thought we were speaking ill of the Thai woman. My boyfriend intervened, but he was punched in the head.'
Mike was hauled to the Pattaya City Police Station.
Footage shows the defiant suspect flashing his middle finger at a local reporter.
Mike later sobered up and reportedly confessed to being drunk during the bar fight. He claimed he thought the other party had spoken rudely to one of his friends.
A police spokesman said: 'The attacker tried to settle the matter by offering compensation. We are still waiting for the German man to be discharged from the hospital before questioning him and possibly filing charges.'
Former fishing village Pattaya became popular with American troops on 'rest and relaxation' breaks in the 1960s when the U.S. military had bases in Thailand. In the ensuing years, the coastal resort spawned into a semi-barbarous sex-tourism hellscape - known for rampant sex and alcohol.
Embarrassed officials have made progress in gentrifying the region with family tourism projects but a ravenous nightlife industry and corrupt police have hampered their efforts, with undesirables from across the world attracted to the seedy city.
The alleged attack is the latest in a string of violence against foreigners and tourists in Thailand - with the city's Soi 6 becoming notoriously dangerous.
British expat Bryan Flowers, from Coventry, heads up a firm called Nightwish Group which claims to be running more than 20 bars on the street. In July 2023, one of the company's bars was raided for alleged trafficking.
Last month, a Canadian oil executive was left fighting for his life in intensive care after he was knocked out by a security guard on the same street of bars, in front of a venue operated by the Nightwish Group.
Mark Robert Westendorf, 65, was out drinking with his friends when he was confronted by the burly security guard, Patiphan Sorheng, 28, in front of a bar. CCTV footage shows the pair shoving each other in a heated row, before the Thai native appeared to deliver a knockout right hook to Mark's face.
While earlier this year, British tourist, Bryce Mahoney, 42, was brutally kicked in the head by a bar bouncer over a drinks bill dispute at a bar on Soi 6 in Pattaya on May 24.
