Two boys were trapped in a lift for nine hours after jamming its doors with a shoe.
Faiq Adiwira, 11, and his friend, 10, were leaving the building to buy food at a nearby shop when they started playing around inside the lift cabin in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on August 19.
CCTV footage shows the youngsters wedging a slipper between the doors before being thrown back when the lift's emergency auto-lock was triggered.
Realising they were trapped, the pair tried to call for help on the intercom system but no one responded. They were said to have panicked until they cried themselves to sleep.
Cheras district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ravindar Singh Sarban Singh said the boys were found asleep and unharmed when security guards finally decided to check CCTV footage nine hours later.
He said on August 20: 'There were two police reports lodged regarding the disappearance of the two children by their next of kin yesterday afternoon.
'Based on the testimonies, the two children left the house at 2:30pm yesterday to buy pies at a shop near the junction of a secondary school before they were trapped in the elevator.'
Faiq's mother, Fospaliza Md Sariff, slammed the building's guards for their alleged incompetence.
She said: 'They kept responding with 'I don't know' while I was looking for my son. They didn't even notify me when he was found. The lift didn't open itself but the lift operator and the security guards opened it. They then sent Faiq home without informing me.'
She added that Faiq and his friend were not injured and were ready to go back to school the next day.
