Police cracked down on beauty clinics allegedly using unregistered cosmetics as medicines in Thailand.
The Central Investigation Bureau raided four unlicensed clinics and detained five quack doctors in Phuket and Rayong provinces.
Police Lieutenant General Jiraphop Phuridet, Commissioner-General of the Central Investigation Bureau, said in a press conference on August 28 that the arrests were made amid a crackdown by the Consumer Protection Police Division (CPPD) on infiNADi Nad+ products.
The pharmaceuticals are touted as a 'fountain of youth' biomolecule said to prevent age-related diseases.
Authorities said the product's registration was revoked in Thailand, but more than 200 clinics across the country were suspected of still using it.
Five suspected quack doctors, identified by authorities as Chanapha Fongmek, 31, Wanwisa Raksakhom, 28, Yupha Budsadee, 34, Sunida Pranee, 39, and Panida Boonkerd, 31, were nabbed in separate raids this month. An unnamed clinic operator was also arrested.
They were said to have been caught offering vitamin drips, administering cosmetic injections, and illegally selling prescription drugs.
The women claimed they held bachelor and vocational degrees but reportedly confessed to lacking valid medical licenses. The clinics in which they worked were also found to have no proper permits to operate.
Police said more than 200 prescription drugs, unregistered medicines, medical equipment, and cosmetic products were seized from the beauty establishments. The total cost of confiscated items was more than 280,000 baht (6,254 GBP).
The suspects were charged with providing treatment without a practitioner's license, using unregistered medicines illegally, and using cosmetic products in inappropriate ways through injection. They reportedly admitted the charges.
