This is the dramatic moment furious locals lynched a Russian tourist who allegedly stole a van in Bali, Indonesia.
Mikhail Kabulov reportedly barged into a vehicle and held its driver at knifepoint along the Bedulu Highway in the Blahbatuh District of the popular holiday island on September 2.
The suspected carjacker was said to have kicked the motorist out and sped away. However, he was soon swarmed by angry residents who blocked the road while he was stuck in traffic.
Footage shows villagers wielding stones and bamboo poles attacking the Russian man, seen in the video wearing purple hoodie, as he brandished a small knife to keep them away.
The locals were undeterred and whacked Mikhail with their wooden weapons. He reportedly tried to run away after dropping his knife, but was quickly caught and beaten up on the pavement.
Onlooker Gede Sukarma said: 'The stolen van was stopped by a number of residents at the junction. They had a bamboo pole around six feet long and some also brought stones. The foreigner went out of the vehicle, then ran a few feet away. He took out a folding knife and threatened them.
'There was one person who managed to hit him in the back with bamboo. He escaped again and I didn't see where he went. I later saw him lying on the sidewalk in front of a shop.'
Made Watha, Gianyar Regional Police Chief, said: 'After receiving a report, we immediately deployed 10 SatpolPP officers to secure the perpetrator before he could hurt anyone.
'We confiscated his knife and detained him at the Gianyar Police Station. There are concerns he might be under the influence of drugs.'
Police have declined to give more details as they said the case was under investigation.
