Police revive teenager who drowned while swimming in river during storm

This is the dramatic moment policemen revived a drowning teenager with CPR.

Officers from the Mae Tha district station were called to the Tha Dong Bridge, where Ditphong, 14, had been dragged underwater while taking a dip with his friends in a river in Lamphun, Thailand, on September 8.

The youngster was pulled ashore by his friends as cops arrived at the scene and took turns pumping the youngster's chest while his panicked relatives sobbed.

After several minutes, the officers said they felt Ditphong's pulse. He was rushed to the Mae Tha Hospital on an ambulance where he has been recovering.

Police Sub-Lieutenant Damrong Jakureuang said: 'At around 4:30pm, the hospital administered a respirator and transferred him to Lamphun Hospital, where he received further treatment.'

The incident unfolded while heavy rain was battering northern Thailand due the seasonal monsoon, which has been intensified by Typhoon Yagi.

Thailand's Meteorological Department had earlier forecasted severe downpours and floods in the region over the weekend due to Yagi's influence.

Yagi, said to be Asia's most powerful storm this year, was downgraded to a tropical storm on Sunday morning, September 8.

It killed at least 15 people in the Philippines before slamming into southern China and Vietnam, where it left at least 49 dead and 22 missing.
