Furious customers stormed a gold shop to demand refunds on what they said were fake jewellery.
Dozens of disgruntled buyers filled the Hang Petch Thong K2N gold shop in Bangkok, Thailand to return their gold accessories on September 24.
The outrage was sparked by a TikTok video made by customer Satang Aphinan alleging that the jewellery were counterfeit products.
She claimed she had tried to re-sell a golden rose bought online from the store - only to be told that its value was unknown because there was no certification of gold purity.
She warned other buyers to shop for jewellery in person instead.
The gold shop owner Kornkanok ‘Mae Tuk' Suwanbut, who holds livestream jewellery auctions, claimed that her products are authentic with a 96.5 per cent purity.
She said: 'Sometimes I do not clarify information in writing because I usually say all the details verbally during my livestreams.
'If my customers could not sell my products at other stores, I will fully refund them. I take full responsibility. However, I will take legal action against those accusing me of peddling fake products.'
She also denied trying to escape to another country.
Police were at the shop on September 24 to marshall the long queues of customers for their turn.
Some of them claimed they were only given partial refunds. Others said they were made to sign waivers that prohibited them from filing complaints against the shop.
Lertsak Raktham, director of the Office of Consumer Protection Board (OCPB)'s Legal Execution Division, also visited the store to collect samples of gold for verification.
He said: 'Experts will examine if the weights of the gold jewellery match the labels. If they dont, that could be considered illegal. We also obtained some gold samples from the customers.
'As for the origin of the product, the owner said they were imported. The OCPB is investigating her claims.'
