An alleged thief climbed onto the roof of his house during a police raid in Thailand.
Attachai, 32, reportedly snatched a 60 gram 21ct gold necklace from a pedestrian in front of a school in Khon Kaen province on June 30.
Police launched a search and found him at his one-storey home allegedly smoking cannabis on July 1.
However, before Khon Kaen police officers could detain Attachai, he clambered up onto the roof, where he stayed for more than an hour.
Cops negotiated with the suspect and even tried to reach him by dismantling the ceiling panels. He later agreed to surrender after the cannbis wore off.
Police Colonel Yotsawat Kaewsuebthanyanit, superintendent of the Mueang Khon Kaen Police Station, said: 'The suspect currently has no job, so he had no funds for daily expenses.
'His phone screen was also broken and needed repairs, so he rode his motorcycle on a road looking for a way to make money.
'When he saw someone wearing a gold necklace, he decided to approach them and snatched it before pawning it. Police have retrieved the stolen jewellery.'
Meanwhile, Attachai allegedly confessed to consuming cannabis, which he claimed caused him to hallucinate and run from the police.
He was detained in police custody pending prosecution.
Authorities said Attachai had previously been arrested for several other cases in Bangkok involving drug distribution in 2008, and two snatchings in 2019.
He was released in 2021, but was caught again for another alleged theft this month.
