Husband, 54, mauled to death by tiger while sitting on toilet in Malaysia

A Malaysian husband was mauled to death by a tiger while he was on an outdoor toilet.

Adnan Ismail, 54, who works as a heavy machinery operator, was attacked by the beast while relieving himself next to his temporary home in Perak State, Malaysia, early morning on October 15.

Perak police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said wildlife officers and police arrived at the scene after receiving a report at around 10:30 am.

He said: 'Following the report, the Bersia police station chief together with three police personnel and a team from the Gerik District Police Headquarters' criminal investigation department were mobilised to the area around 10:30 am.

'They were assisted by a group of 10 Forestry Department officers in the search and rescue operation. The victim was found around 12 pm around 100 metres from where the temporary house is located.'

Adnan was already dead when police reached him. He had severe bite wounds on his neck and left leg.

His Thai wife, Roslaiti Sulaiman, said: 'I heard the tiger roaring that morning, and I went to check the toilet, I saw it dragging my husband away into the bushes.'

His daughter, Nur Nazirah, said: 'My father promised me we would see him when he returned home that day. I was shocked when my cousin called to tell me he had been killed by the tiger. I can't believe he's gone.'

Adnan's body was taken to the Gerik Hospital's forensic unit for a post-mortem exam. Police said the case has been classified as a 'sudden death'.

Tiger attacks in Malaysia are rare but do occur, particularly in rural areas near tiger habitats. These incidents often happen when tigers feel threatened or when they encroach into human settlements due to habitat loss and shrinking prey populations.
