Two people were killed and seven others injured after a crane collapsed at a building site in Bangkok on Tuesday.
The tower crane was carrying out construction of a waste disposal centre in the city's Soi Onnut 86 area when its base fell over on July 2.
Police Colonel Suraphong Putkhao, superintendent of Prawet Police Station, said police received a report at 2 pm.
He said: 'The tower crane was 20 metres tall with a 70-metre arm capable of lifting loads up to 12 tonnes. The crane disconnected at its base and fell onto a white Isuzu cement mixer truck, causing it to flip sideways.'
The crane operator, Somnuek Daochan, 53, and foreman Sunan Sutthiwilai, 47, were killed when they were crushed under the debris.
Seven other people were injured by glass shards. They were rushed to the Sirindhorn Hospital, though some with minor wounds declined to go.
Police Colonel Suraphong said: 'The initial investigation found that the crane's base could not handle its weight, causing the crane to disconnect from the foundation.
'We will investigate the personnel involved and press charges against those responsible.'
The construction site was for the On Nut Waste Disposal Centre, under the control of New Sky Energy (Bangkok).
The facility will be equipped with an incinerator and was intended to process at least 1,000 tonnes of waste daily for power generation.
The project has secured an investment of about 1.3 billion baht.
Construction began on February 19 of this year and is scheduled to be completed by November 14, 2026.
