A dancer fell off a stage and died of alleged exhaustion after performing at a beauty pageant.
Jaylord Gabor, 20, nicknamed 'Juala', and her troupe performed their intermission number at the 'Enchantress of Inayawan 2024' beauty pageant in Cebu City, Cebu province, in the Philippines, on August 21.
However, while exiting towards the stairs, Jaylord collapsed and tumbled headfirst onto the floor.
Shocking footage shows the lithe dancer, seen in the video wearing a sparkly white and silver uniform, suddenly hunching over and rolling down the stairs as her panicked friends called for help.
Medics gave Jaylor first aid before rushing her to the nearest hospital where doctors tried to revive her. However, she died a few hours later.
In a statement, Barangay Captain Kirk Repollo said: 'While the production number of the candidates was conducted, one of the guest dancers suddenly looked ill while approaching the stairs which eventually led her to slide down the stairs and fell to the ground.
'Immediate response was given to her by our ground personnel and she was brought to the Barangay Health Center to be transported by ambulance to the nearest hospital. Not long after, we received an update that she had already given up. Upon hearing it, we were saddened and grieved.'
The medic added that it was the first such incident during the town's fiesta celebrations.
Authorities have not disclosed what caused Jaylord's death.
Her grieving mother, Laarni, said Jaylord had been busy practicing for the performance night after night, and that she may have been 'overfatigued'.
Laarni said: 'Jaylord was very kind and hardworking. She may have been exhausted doing dance practices. It hurts to suddenly have my child taken away from me. But I have no grudges against the organisers of the event. No one wanted this to happen.'
